Enough Is Enough

'Nough Said - 'Nuff Said - or any variation thereof - This idiom does not accomplish much more than to brand the utterer a lowbrow conversationalist.  A more timely observation may be the tagging of pictures posted to social media along with that comment.  If a picture is worth a thousand words why not concede that your viewers get the point.

Sounds Like A Plan

Sounds Like A Plan - I think a plan is a multi-step process consisting of actions that take place in an order of some sort.  If someone says, "I'll be over at 7:00" and the other party says, "Sounds like a plan" I think they are mistaken.  What's the plan?
"I will leave my house; get in my car; drive over to your house, and wait for you to come out and get in the car."
Now, THAT'S a plan.

Tech Savvy

Tech Savvy -
I wish we could retire this one...along with a slew of other hackneyed technology related expressions.  It seems I most often hear this in a negative vein, "I'm not tech savvy", or "he, she, or it, it not tech savvy."  If this means, "Proficient in the use of technology, especially computers" why don't we use the same expression for other things?  Car savvy, gun savvy, stove savvy, hydraulic lift savvy............

Go Figure

Go Figure -
Okay, you are making a lame attempt at sarcasm and you're coming off like a pre-teen.  I may have just made a comment about an occurrence or a situation that I found of importance or interest and as a retort all you have to offer is, "Go figure".  For added emphasis I suggest you toss in an eye roll.

Man Up

Man Up - When my kids played soccer this meant cover an opposing player.  When did it change to mean act your age or grow up?  Does anyone say, "woman up", or "girl up"?

Basically

Basically - Something is...or it isn't.  How can it be basically?   I just had a call from a salesman who said, "Basically, my name is Scott and....."   Basically your name is Scott?  Basically it was a blue car...basically I am disappointed...basically?????  I know it probably became a nervous habit back in 6th grade when you thought it made you sound smart...but basically it's not working for you anymore.

Bucket Head

Bucket List - I saw a tweet from Ruth Buzzi that said she made a bucket list: "....a 5 gallon plastic pail, 2 old drywall mud containers, and 3 galvanized buckets."  (or something close to that) I think that about sums it up!!

Do?

"Do" - When did people stop having and start doing?  When I order from a menu I have something to eat; I do not do something to eat.  I'll have the chowder but I will not do the chowder.

Do Not Pass Go

"Incarcerated" - Why is it that the only people to use this word are either those that are in jail or their relatives?  Come on!  Could it be that it's the only 5 syllable word you know?  Admit it, you are in jail, in prison, in the pokie, locked up, in the hoosegow, tossed in the brig, in stir, in the big house, or been sent up the river!!

Been Where and DID What?

"Been there done that" - Oh yeah?  If you have no more clever retort than this then I guess you have...except for school because you missed the days we studied grammar and creativity.

To Drill or Not...

Pre-drill - When I watch home improvement shows and they are building something they often tell the viewers they are "pre-drilling".   Okay, are you drilling or not?  How do you pre-drill?  I would think that pre-drilling would be what you do before you drill.  Drilling a hole before drilling the same spot again used to be called drilling a pilot hole.  I'll stick with that.

Bigger Than Big

Big Time - I'm the first to agree that the two words together are not that bad.  I would have loved to have hit the big time.  On the other hand using the words to express agreement or to exaggerate the degree to which something has happened sounds low brow at best.  Fan One says, "The Browns got creamed."  Fan  Two, with beer in hand replies, "Big time!"
Nice.......

Willllllmmmmaaaaaaa

"man cave" - I don't know if I need to blame HGTV for this one or some addled good old boy but whatever the case, I don't like it.   "I ain't movin' here 'less I gets a MAN CAVE", seems to be a common refrain on the home real estate  programs.  Personally I'm happy with a living room, a family room, or a front room.   If you need a man cave then you should just stay in the garage and swill suds from a vibrating Lazy Boy.  Better yet just get arrested.

It goes without saying

"Just saying" or (even worse) "just sayin'" - I see no need to append this to any utterance.  You already said what you are going to say so you do not need to point it out, cite yourself, or gloat.

A Little Bit Of Soul

"Soul Mate" - It seems the only folks who use this sickening expression are either charged with killing their partner or blubbering after a break up.   The only soul mates were maybe the Pips, The Four Tops, or the Temptations.

Forklifting

"Forklift" - I had a meeting with some salesmen today.  I'm looking for a new telephone system for the campus.  Each of the 3 salesmen took a turn at using "forklift" as a verb meaning to do a complete removal of the old system and installing a new one.  "Are you looking to do a forklift?"   No, I do not plan of doing a forklift...I do not swing that way!  I am looking for a new telecom system.

Enjoy this

"Enjoy" - I'd like to know when this single word became the mantra of restaurant servers. I'd rather hear a full sentence such as, "Enjoy your dinner", or "Enjoy your evening", or "Enjoy playing footsies" rather than that solitary unfeeling word.

Reach Out In The Darkness

"...reaching out to..."  - It makes my skin crawl when a salesperson calls or emails and they tell me they are, "reaching out" to me. CREEPY!!!  How about, "I am calling..."or, "I am emailing...", or better yet, "I am contacting..."?  Enough of this reaching out.  It makes me think you are sinking.

Too Grimm?

I could not say it better myself.

It's A Wrap

"Wrap my head around."  - there is nothing better than cartoon imagery to let someone know you don't understand something.
